What better way to celebrate the Blairsville Scottish Festival and Highland Games than to join the Scots for the first Gaelic Gallop 5K & 1 mile Fun Run/Walk at the North Georgia Technical College’s Blairsville campus across Highway 515 from Meeks Park. The race is the morning of Saturday, June 9.
Registration begins at 7 am and the race will begin at 8 am. The route for the first annual Gaelic Gallop 5K and 1 mile fun run/walk leaves the college and works its way through Meeks Park and back to the North Georgia Tech campus.
Race participants will receive a pass to attend the festival and a race tank top. Awards will be given to overall and all age group winners.
Bring the non-runners too! Walkers of all ages will enjoy the sound of the bagpipes throughout the route in Meeks Park.
The admission prices prior to June 9 are for $25 for adults (13+), $20 for participants (13+) wearing a kilt and children 12 and under are $15. The price for all ages for the 1 mile fun run/walk is $15. There is also a virtual run (for those who can’t participate, but want the tank top) for $15.
Admission for participants on race day is $30 and it is “first come, first serve” for the tank tops.
Registration is available through Active.com. The Blairsville/Union County Chamber of Commerce also has registration forms available.
There is plenty to see, hear and do at the festival once the runners and walkers have returned. The Blairsville Scottish Festival and Highland Games begins on June 9 at 9:00 am and will end on June 10 at 5:00 pm.
